On 20-24 April 2026, a student of the Police Academy in Szczytno participated in the event “International Cadets’  Week”, organized by the State Police College in Riga (Latvia). The event was attended by cadets and students from various countries, including Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Finland, Lithuania and Latvia. It provided an excellent opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about different police training systems.

On the first day, participants became familiar with the functioning of the Latvian police and education system at the local police academy. They also visited the Training Centre for Investigations. An important element of the day was an experience-sharing session, during which all cadets presented their home institutions, training systems, and practical aspects of police service in their countries. The meeting enabled comparison of training methods and identification of best practices used in different countries.

On the second day, study visits took place at the Medical Education and Technology Centre  of the University of Stradiņš and at the Prevention Department of the State Police.  Participants learned about the organizational structure, scope of responsibilities, and specifics of the work of individual units.

On the third day, participants visited the Municipal Police in Riga, where it’s tasks and competencies were presented. This was followed by practical training in police tactics, including the use of force and intervention techniques. The classes were hands-on and conducted in groups, allowing for active participation and skill development.

On the fourth day, practical training continued, including firearms training as well as physical fitness and police tactics exercises. It was one of the most intensive elements of the program, enabling the development of key operational competencies.

On the final day participants visited the Cybercrime Department, where modern methods of combating cybercrime were presented.

The event concluded with an official summary, presentation of certificates, and exchange of experiences.

Participation in “International Cadets’ Week” was of significant importance for the professional development of students. In particular, it:

  • Enabled participants to learn about foreign police training systems and organizational structures of uniformed services
  • Contributed to the development of interpersonal and communication skills in an international environment
  • Allowed the acquisition of practical skills in police tactics, use of force, and firearms handling
  • Increased awareness of threats related to cybercrime and methods of combating them
  • Enabled the exchange of experiences and the establishment of professional contacts with representatives of other countries

Participation in the meetings was a valuable experience. The knowledge and information gained can be used in future service, contributing to increased effectiveness of duties performed within European police structures. The international nature of the event fostered integration within the police community and helped build cooperation between services from different countries.
